Changelog
Every StoryGrid release, newest first.
Version 1.5.3 July 17, 2026
Fixed
- Sharing a video grid now shares the video — Share used to hand over a single still frame instead of the clip.
- Photos permission: Share is actually offered — the alert told you to use Share but only showed Open Settings. It now has a Share instead button that shares the finished export straight away, video included.
- Muting a video counts as a change — toggling Mute on a saved grid now offers to save it instead of silently dropping the change on exit.
- Stretch matches the export after toggling it — turning Stretch on or off now re-checks the photo's position, so a stretched block can't export a different crop than the one on the canvas.
- Zoom stops at 10× — pinching could previously zoom in without limit.
- Presets no longer leave video files behind — switching to a preset with fewer blocks now removes the dropped blocks' video files instead of stranding them on disk.
- Old saved grids can't wipe your library — a grid saved by an early version could fail to load and take the whole library with it. Anything missing now falls back to its default.
Version 1.5.2 July 17, 2026
Changed
- Your work follows you when you change format — picking a size on the home screen now re-shapes whatever is already on the canvas instead of clearing it. Your blocks, photos, videos, spacing and frame all come across, every time, whether you pick the same size or a different one. Only Reset starts a blank grid.
Fixed
- Updating a re-shaped grid no longer corrupts it — saving over a grid you've changed the format of now stores the new format and redraws its thumbnail at the right shape. Before, the grid kept claiming its old size and its card on the home screen showed up cropped.
- Photo no longer jumps mid-drag — lifting one finger out of a pinch while still dragging with the other made the photo jump. Pan and zoom now land together.
- Stretch matches the export — a width-stretched block now looks the same on the canvas as it does in the exported image, including right after opening the app and if a subscription has lapsed.
Version 1.5.1 July 17, 2026
Changed
- Clearer saved-grid labels — the badge on each saved grid on the home screen now reads "Stories" or "Post 4:5" / "Post 1:1" instead of a bare aspect ratio.
Fixed
- Saving after switching format — open a saved grid, go back, then pick a different format (for example Story → Post) and the editor now offers to save it as a new grid instead of doing nothing. Changing a Single Post's ratio (4:5 ↔ 1:1) is picked up the same way.
Version 1.5.0 July 17, 2026
Added
- Your saved grids, right on the home screen — a new strip shows your saved layouts as thumbnails. Tap one to jump straight into it in the right size, ready for photos. When you have several, a full-height More tile opens your whole library.
Changed
- Much smoother photo & video positioning — panning and pinch-zoom now stay exactly where you leave them: the image no longer jumps or snaps back when you lift your finger, and can't be shrunk smaller than its frame.
- Home screen tidied — the "Feed Grids" teaser is now a compact row at the bottom.
Version 1.4.1 July 17, 2026
Changed
- Clearer Photos permission when exporting — if Photos access is turned off, exporting no longer fails with a cryptic error. StoryGrid explains what's needed and gives a one-tap shortcut to Settings (Photos → "Add Photos Only"), and reminds you that Share still saves or sends your grid without changing any permissions.
Version 1.4.0 July 10, 2026
Added
- Polaroid & Leica frames (PRO) — turn your whole grid into one classic instant-photo frame. With a frame border on, the new Bottom spacing slider grows a taller band along the bottom in your frame colour, giving the post that wide Polaroid/Leica chin. Your photos and video sit inside a single clean frame — works with any number of sections, pairs with rounded corners, and shows up in your saved-grid thumbnails.
Version 1.3.4 July 10, 2026
Added
- See where a photo belongs while you move it — dragging or pinching a photo (or video) now shows its block outline underneath, so it stays clear the media fills that section even while you push it past the edge. Release to snap it back into place.
Changed
- Clearer rotate button — the rotate icon now reads distinctly from the lock, so the two are easy to tell apart at a glance.
- Tidied the home screen — the not-yet-ready "Feed Grids" placeholder is hidden until it ships.
Fixed
- Video export no longer freezes the app — exporting a grid with a video (especially a second export after rearranging) could hang the whole app on device. The video overlay is now composed correctly and the on-screen clip pauses during export.
- Streamlined how grids are laid out and exported under the hood, keeping the on-screen preview and the exported image perfectly in sync across photos, videos and saved-grid thumbnails.
Version 1.3.3 July 7, 2026
Changed
- Clearer, more refined block actions — press and hold a photo or video and the action buttons now read at a glance: a labelled Swap (up/down), Remove, and, when a frame border is active, Stretch to pull the media across the border. Redesigned with a premium look — thin icons on frosted glass with quiet captions.
Fixed
- The Stretch action now appears only when it actually does something — when a frame border with a real gap is set — instead of always showing.
Version 1.3.2 July 6, 2026
Added
- A friendly nudge to spread the word — once you've exported a few grids, an optional prompt invites you to follow StoryGrid on Instagram, leave a rating, or share the app. A subtle footer on the home screen opens the same options any time.
Changed
- Much faster photo loading — picked photos now appear instantly as a quick preview and sharpen to full resolution in the background, load several at once, and are processed off the main thread so the grid stays draggable right away. A loading spinner covers the brief first-pick warm-up.
- Lighter video editing — videos load a smaller preview while you arrange them, keeping the canvas smooth; exports still use the original at full quality.
Fixed
- Smoothed out interface hitches during editing — the app typeface is now cached and purchase checks run off the main thread.
Version 1.3.1 July 6, 2026
Added
- Live preview while adjusting Gap, Radius and Frame size — dragging any of these sliders fades the settings panel completely away so you can watch the whole grid react in real time, with the current value shown in a bubble at the thumb and a badge at the top. Release to bring the panel back.
Changed
- Renamed the border Size slider to Frame size for clarity.
Version 1.3.0 July 1, 2026
Added
- New typeface across the app — Outfit variable font for a cleaner, more consistent look.
- Filter your saved grids — All / Stories / Post tabs.
- Start screen now lists the square 1080 × 1080 export size.
Changed
- Saved-grid thumbnails render in their real aspect ratio (Post / Single Post no longer squeezed into the Story shape).
- Saved Grids refined — centered title, top-aligned thumbnails.
- Dark-framed saved grids show one dashed outline around the whole post (matching the editor).
- Paywall polish — inline logo, floating Save badge, tidier feature list.
Legal
- Bundled the SIL Open Font License (OFL) for Outfit.
Version 1.2.1 June 30, 2026
Added
- Empty blocks now show a dashed outline so tappable placeholders read on any background.
Fixed
- Muted video playback no longer interrupts other apps' audio (ambient audio session).
- Saved grids — the first tap now selects a grid instantly (removed the scroll touch delay).
- Saved grids — loading a grid with a different number of sections keeps your photos instead of clearing them.
Version 1.2.0 June 29, 2026
Added
- Stretch across the border (PRO) — long-press a photo or video and tap the stretch icon to make it span the full canvas width across the left/right frame border, in front of the frame.
- Long-press action menu — long-press a section for quick actions: stretch (PRO), swap with another section, or clear its content; empty sections offer Add Photo / Add Video.
- Lock simplifies the controls — a locked section now shows only the lock icon (rotate and swap are hidden).
- Compact controls on short sections — lock and rotate sit side-by-side so every icon fits on small/square sections.
- Saved grids now show width-stretch layouts in their thumbnails.
- Splash screen and demo grid recolored to the brand palette; app-icon bars realigned to the brand mark.
Fixed
- Photos and videos can no longer render outside their section — clipping hardened, especially with corner Radius enabled.
- Media position re-clamps when blocks are added, removed, reordered or stretched — no more drifting out of frame or jumping below a block.
- Fixed a ghost/duplicate section after reordering an empty block and then adding a photo.
- Reordering sections with the arrows is now instant — removed the unnatural slide animation.
- Saved-grid thumbnails — percentage labels are centered in each block and respect the border and gap.
- Replaced the glitchy long-press menu on empty sections with the clean action panel.
